Kettlebells have been around for hundreds of years in Russia. It is believed that they were once used as counterweights in Russian markets. Villagers began to use them as training tools, and strength contests were held across Russia.

Kettlebells were introduced to the American landscape going on 10 years ago. Athletes from a wide range of sports have enjoyed the supreme fitness that is achievable from the Kettlebell workout.

Kettlebells are a new paradigm for many people who want to improve their fitness. If a person has never touched a kettlebell, it is hard to fathom how swinging a lead ball around can be good for you. In Fact, kettlebells offer high intensity interval training that results in quick muscular gains and fat loss.

It is very difficult for people to understand where to start if they want to try the kettlebell workout. Beginners and young athletes have a hard time determining what weight to start with. They also are confused as to what exercises to perform.

Answers to questions about kettlebell use can rarely be found at your local gym. Many fitness instructors are not trained in the art of the kettlebell. In addition, not many gyms have a full rack of kettlebells to help a beginner select the right weight.

For the past three years I have been working out with Kettlebells. I have found it very hard to help others start with Kettlebell workouts without spending hundreds of dollars on a wide range of weights. You just can’t shave off some iron to make a kettlebell appropriate for a smaller athlete.

I finally heard about the Powerbell – an adjustable kettlebell. The Powerbell is a 40 pound kettlebell with a handle and six, 5 pound plates that securely lock into the handle. The Powerbell adjusts from 10 pounds to 40 pounds. A young athlete can start at, say, 15 pounds, and easily add weight as she gets stronger. Special DVDs train the user on proper technique.

The adjustable kettlebell enables a person to do a swing with 35 pounds, and a clean and press with 25 pounds without buying a new kettlebell. Additionally, more than one person with different abilities can work out with the same device. The best kettlebell workout comes from the combination of power and convenience.
