Asses your financial capabilities and figure out what do you need from a home gym, then you will be able to make a decent buying decision.

First and foremost do not cram your gym with all sort of needless equipment. For instance, if you want to lose weight or gain cardio resistance, then equipment like a powered cross trainer, a mechanized treadmill and a Swiss ball is enough. For a good strength training, a smith machine would be a great choice. If you want to build a decent gym for strength and cardio training, you will have to pay some good money. By this I mean on several things like ventilation, flooring, lighting and music.

You must have at least 150 square feet on your disposal to build a home gym. It’s great to have some free space to move around. In case you have a two hundred squares of feet on your disposal, you can fit in a Jacuzzi. Besides fitnes equipment like plate machines, treadmills and elliptical trainers, you should have some resistance bands, dumbblells and free weights. I urge you to refrain from creating your home gym environment in the basement.

Flooring is also an important part while building a gym. You can choose between rubber flooring or a vinyl flooring. If any falls occur, the rubber flooring will cushion and reduce the impact. You will be comfortable with running, walking and standing in difference to the carpeted flooring or tiled flooring. Another advantage is that rubber flooring reduces the fitness equipment impact. Rubber flooring is easy to maintain and clean as well. Vynil flooring is easily cleaned, which makes it hygienic, and the noise is reduced to aceptable level.
